Psychiatric Medication Services (SW Virginia)

Psychiatric Medication Services (SW Virginia)

Family Preservation Services offers Psychiatric Medication Services that focus on the improvement and continued stabilization of an individual’s level of functioning, and alleviation of biologically based psychiatric symptoms that interfere with daily functioning.

We know that our mental well-being is directly connected with our overall physical health.

Experiences like stress or trauma can leave us anxious, overwhelmed and hopeless. Untreated, these feelings can lead to major psychological and physical illnesses or to behaviors that can become addictive and destructive. Just as it’s important to have your physical body checked by your primary care provider, it’s just as important to have your mental health checked as well.

What To Expect

When you arrive at the FPS Clinic, you will be greeted by one of our psychiatric practitioners who will perform an initial checkup similar to what you might experience at your primary care provider. This checkup, called an assessment, includes an overview of your symptoms and a determination of whether or not medication is a good option in the treatment of any mental health needs that may be determined.

Based on this assessment, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan is designed with you. If it’s in your best interest, medication will be discussed and education will be provided on the actions, uses, and side effects of the suggested medication options. If you agree on a medication and treatment option, the medication is prescribed for a trial period to observe the effectiveness. This is what we refer to as the “medication management,” aspect of your psychiatric care. The effectiveness of the medication will be monitored over a course of time to determine if your treatment needs and goals are being met. The Psychiatric Medication Services offered by FPS are often utilized at the same time as other forms of treatment such as outpatient therapy, life skills coaching, and/or behavioral therapies. Through careful monitoring and on-going discussion we find the right medication and treatment plan to improve your mental health.

If you are experiencing any mental health concerns, and would like to discuss whether medication is a good option for you, please call us at 276.679.1045.
